The Day of Atonement
The Day of Atonement is a day of fasting and self denial. Atonement means covering which Jesus provided when He shed His blood on the cross as a covering for sin. His blood is the atonement for sin, so we will not be condemned at the Judgment Seat.
Synonyms for the Day of Atonement are the Day of Judgment, the Day of Redemption, the Day of the Lord and the Day of Reckoning.
The Day of Atonement follows the day of Trumpets. The fulfillment of the festival of Ingathering follows the sounding of the Last Trumpet.
· Trumpets - Harvest Gathering
· Atonement - Judgment Seat of Christ
· Tabernacles - Christ's eternal presence and reign
The seventh angel sounded his trumpet, and there were loud voices in heaven, which said: "The kingdom of the world has become the kingdom of our Lord and of his Christ, and he will reign for ever and ever." And the twenty-four elders, who were seated on their thrones before God, fell on their faces and worshiped God, saying: "We give thanks to you, Lord God Almighty, the One who is and who was, because you have taken your great power and have begun to reign. The nations were angry; and your wrath has come. The time has come for judging the dead, and for rewarding your servants the prophets and your saints and those who reverence your name, both small and great-- and for destroying those who destroy the earth (Revelation11:15-18).
At Christ's appearing the saints will be gathered and judged as we read below, in Psalm 50. This same coming and gathering were also described by Jesus.
Let's compare the two passages and see the similarities.
Our God comes and will not be silent; a fire devours before him, and around him a tempest rages. He summons the heavens above, and the earth, that he may judge his people: "Gather to me my consecrated ones, who made a covenant with me by sacrifice." And the heavens proclaim his righteousness, for God himself is judge (Psalm 50:3-6).
They will see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of the sky, with power and great glory. And he will send his angels with a loud trumpet call, and they will gather his elect from the four winds, from one end of the heavens to the other (Matthew 24:30-31).
At the Second Coming, Christ will return from heaven, gather His elect and reward them at the Judgment Seat of Christ.
For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, that each one may receive what is due him for the things done while in the body, whether good or bad (2 Corinthians 5:10).
Once Christ gathers His followers at the day of (Trumpets) He will judge His people (Day of Atonement), He will live with them (Feast of Tabernacles), for ever and ever.
The final fall harvest Feast of Ingathering is - The Feast of Tabernacles
